Google will combine with SingTel, Bharti, Globe Transit and Pacnet to build the mooted Unity cable, connecting Japan to the United States. The $US300 million system was revealed by SingTel and Pacnet this morning. The 7.68 terabit cable is expected to be ready for service in 1Q 2010.

The first set of handsets based on the LiMo Platform made their debut at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. The LiMo Platform is the mobile Linux distribution produced by the LiMo Foundation. The handsets, 18 in total, are from LG Electronics, Motorola, NEC, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung, Purple Labs, and Aplix.

ARM, the leading semiconductor intellectual property (IP) supplier, has announced that it will be showcasing “visually stunning mobile Internet devices at Mobile World Congress 2008″. This is an interesting development because ARM is not a member of the Open Handset Alliance (OHA), and has not shown any indication that it will join the OHA.
